B i o g r a p h y

Aviella Trapido was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and has been performing professionally since the age of 9. She studied tap and modern dance intensively, earning Gold and Silver medals from the South African Dance and Theatre Association (SADTA) and later moved on to musical theater. Ms. Trapido moved to Israel in 1998 where she first appeared on the local theatrical scene with JEST (Jerusalem English Speaking Theater).

 

She began her vocal training and earned her place at the IVAI (International Vocal Arts Institute) programme and worked under the baton of Maestro’s Mark Adamo and Brian DeMaris in the Israeli debut production of "Little Women" in conjunction with the Tel Aviv Opera House.  She has also performed with the Israel Chamber Orchestra and Israel Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Paul Salter.

Aviella is a third generation Gilbert & Sullivan lover and, having performed almost every leading Soprano role in several Gilbert & Sullivan Productions, has earned the nickname The Gilbert & Sullivan Girl. She has delighted audiences all over Israel as well as South Africa, Paris, New York and Toronto in roles both Operatic and Musical Theater.

In 2013 she tried her hand at directing and was successful at bringing Stephen Sondheim's Company, the first production of its kind in English in Israel, to the Jerusalem stage. She has gone on to direct many productions with various companies and is now herself acting producer for the J-Town Playhouse Theater Company. She continues to perform, direct and produce for Israeli audiences as well as the occasional concert abroad.
